There are many different forms of chest pain. It’s likely that you have suffered from it at least once before. If you’ve ever had a burning sensation that seems to rise from your stomach and then work its way to your chest and lungs, then you have suffered from heartburn. This is the most common form of chest pain. Sometimes people feel as though this could be a sign that they’re having a heart attack, but that is rarely the case. People will often have an odd sensation in their left arm when having a heart attack, not pain in their chest.
Of course, there are many other forms of chest pain. Sometimes it can simply be caused by sore muscles. Other times it can be caused by recent trauma to the chest area. Shingles are another possibility, and more common if you’ve recently had the chicken pox. One very common form of pain in the chest is when someone suffers from a panic attack. A panic attack is also often associated with quick breathing, a rapid heartbeat, severe anxiety, and cold sweats. While not common to most people, they tend to reoccur in those who have already had them.
Some more basic and common causes of chest pain are smoking, alcohol and caffeine. If you’re to take any of these substances, you should at least try to limit your intake. Large intakes of caffeine can also be dangerous for those with a heart condition. This can be especially scary because sometimes these people aren’t even aware they have a heart condition. That being the case, if you have any unnatural feeling symptoms when consuming caffeine, it’s wise to stop consuming it.
Chest pain is one of the biggest reasons for emergency room visits in the United States. More often than not, the individual will be suffering from heartburn and sent away with an over-the-counter medication, but at least they leave with their peace of mind. As with any condition related to health, it’s better to play it safe. In the rare event that the pain in the chest is something more serious (which does happen), you could have saved your own life. Just try to make sure you can get someone else to drive you to the emergency room. Someone with a potentially life-threatening condition shouldn’t be driving a motor vehicle.
Cardiac forms of pain in the chest are often more serious and can include heart attacks, angina and aortic dissection. Non-cardiac forms of pain in the chest are often less serious. Some symptoms can be a sour taste in the mouth, a burning sensation in the chest, trouble swallowing, sensitivity in the chest area, and pain while breathing or coughing.
Regardless of what type of pain or condition you might be dealing with, it’s always important to have your personal information on hand in case of an emergency. This should include your name, address, and emergency contact numbers, as well as your medical and family history. You might be thinking that you don’t need to take these steps, but you won’t be thinking that way when your life is on the line. Once again, it’s better to play it safe.
While pain in the chest can be deceiving as far as what is really taking place inside your body, as well as the seriousness of the issue, you should never underestimate or ignore something that doesn’t feel right. See a doctor right away. If anything, at least you will know what is really going on next time the same symptoms arise.
Hopefully the information above will help you stay healthy.
