Question: My 3 month old son has reflux and takes Zantac to treat it. Silent reflux is an interesting challenge. It seems like Zantac is helpful; however, he seems fussy recently.  I think the medicine is not as effective as it once was. One problem to watch out for is that you will need to increase the dosage as the baby grows. I would like to know the dosage for a 12 pound baby. Right now, he takes one milliliter. Thank you in advance.

Answer: I can only tell you what our doctor advised.  He increased the dosage by half a milliliter for our daughter, who had the same problem.

Answer:I wonder if you breastfeed your baby or bottle feed.  I can tell you what my doctor said. I am worried as well that my four-weeks old preemie is suffering from acid reflux. My pediatrician, however, said that this is normal in premature babies since they are still developing their internal organs. One of the finest actions I did to help her is to pay attention to my diet as she is being breastfed. Here are the foods that I keep away from: Wheat, foods with a lot of vitamin C, spicy foods, and foods/drinks containing caffeine. Of course, these are all my favorites, but I would rather go without them than be dependent on medication. Here are some things you can do to help a baby with reflux: Burp the baby after every two or three ounces of milk consumed. Keep the baby’s head up during feedings. Wait twenty minutes to half an hour before laying the baby down after a feeding.

Answer:No two babies are alike. Discuss this with your doctor. Double-check to see how much to increase the dosage. My nephew is three months old and just had his dosage doubled.  The pediatrician says that this will probably be the case at six months, too.

Answer:When my daughter had reflux, we preferred Gaviscon Infant over Zantac. It is easy to give the powder sachets in a bottle. You can also dilute the medication with water and spoon feed it. Nonetheless, to avoid mistakes in the dosage, I refuse to guess or follow the recommendation of anybody other than a physician. Additionally, my daughter is now thirteen months old. She has been diagnosed as having Coeliac and being lactose intolerant. For this reason, she couldn’t keep her milk down. She also had constant diarrhea from six months of age until now. Be sure to watch for more symptoms as your child gets older.
