Question: Just recently I had some bad heartburn. I have not had such a severe problem in many years. My doctor thinks it is not my heart. I take 14 day Prilosec as well as a Zantac after my evening meal. I don’t know if this is helping or not. Are you aware of any other OTC remedies? What about foods? Chamomile tea seems to provide some relief.

Answer:
Remember that home remedies are usually focused on curing the cause rather than masking the symptoms.

Discover the cause of the heartburn. It could be caused by simple things like the position you sleep in, eating and drinking simultaneously, or eating too quickly. If you have heartburn, some of these things may be causative.

Answer: I am not in possession of my books that outline home remedies for heartburn.

Answer: For bad heartburn, have an apple, some milk, and chew the apple seeds.  It is important not to eat more seeds than the amount contained in one apple because there is a small amount of arsenic in apple seeds.

Only eat a little at a time. Don’t drink alcohol.

Progressive relaxation, meditation, and exercise are all great ways to manage stress.
