Question: My mother, who is in her late 40’s, suffers from severe indigestion. She has tried a number of things such as prunes, prune juice, chamomile tea, a tea called “3 ballerinas” that is supposed to improve your digestion and help you lose weight. She has even tried exercising and eating Activia, a new yogurt that has recently become available. Nothing has been effective for her. Can you name some good remedies that are natural to assist her?

Answer: My hope is that she does not consume antacids, for with these her condition might worsen. Most likely she has difficulty digesting food. Using antacids will make the problem worse because they suppress production of the stomach acids necessary to break down proteins. To assist her digestion she might want to consume an HCL with a supplement of Pepsin. Basically it s a digestive enzyme, but since it mimics the natural enzymes that are present in the stomach, it is more effective.

Answer: OTC Prilosec helped me, but I know nothing of a cure that is natural.
